Annual Fall Picnic

Sunday, October 2, 2016

On Sunday, October 2, 2016 we held our Annual Fall Picnic at Plains Township Municipal Building Pavilion in Plains, PA. A number of new faces came to the picnic, possibly due to the picnic being held at a new place. It was nice to see all the new and familiar people. Sadly, since the last picnic we have lost fellow members and long-time picnickers; Richard Anselmi, Mathew Duda, Bill Malos, Sister Mercedes, Andrew Sofranko, and Philip Tuhy.

The food was delicious and plentiful. The first course was goulash served with fresh rye bread and butter. It gets more delicious every year, Andy Sofranko left his recipe to Michael Stretanski.  We cannot have a picnic without holupky and pirohy. This year we had Slovak holupky and Serbian (made with sauerkraut) holupky; there were several different filling in the pirohy.

Other items were also enjoyed. Then came the hot dogs, halusky, corn, etc., etc., etc. Michael Stretanski outdid himself as usual. There were an abundance of homemade desserts, at least 16 different kinds, from other members.

We played some games that kept everyone guessing. There were plenty of door prizes to go around. Bill Zdancewicz was our game master.

As usual, good time was had by all. Thank you to all who helped make our picnic a delightful time.
