Dr. Thomas M. Check presented a lecture about Rev. Jozef Murgaš on October 4, 2015 at King’s on the Square. Dr. Check was one of the first to contribute financially to the Murgaš Room at King’s on the Square.

Dr. Check spoke of the birth, the life and the many accomplishments of this great man, “Radio’s Forgotten Genius”. Father Murgaš was born in 1864 Slovakia and his life there had many problems. Because of this he came to the United States in 1896.

Many of the details that Dr. Check presented were new to the audience. Several people said “I didn’t know that.”  Dr. Check was baptized by Father Murgaš at Sacred Heart Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He prepared a booklet with many of the facts of Father Murgaš’ life and presented one to each attendee.

Eighty people were in attendance. A question and answer period was followed by refreshments and a tour of the Murgaš Room.

The Slovak Heritage Society appreciates Dr. Check, who is a dentist in the Philadelphia area, taking the time from his busy schedule to present this lecture and prepare the booklet.
