In 2017, the Slovak Heritage Society of NEPA established the Father Jozef Murgaš Scholarship at King’s College, which will be awarded annually to a first-year student from an area Catholic, private, or public high school.
On October 25, 2017 the first recipient was announced; Tyler Herbinko, a resident of Harleigh, graduate of the Hazleton Area STEM School and a management major at King’s was formally presented with the scholarship at a ceremony. The ceremony was held in the Father Jozef Murgaš Room located at King’s on the Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre.
SHSNEPA is grateful to Anthony '68 and Elaine Palischak, who are the donors of the initial year of the scholarship. Mr. and Mrs. Palischak attended the scholarship ceremony. Mr. Frederick A. Pettit, Esq. '96, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, welcomed everyone to the ceremony. The invocation and thank you was given by Rev. John J. Ryan, C.S.C., PhD., President of King's College. Remarks were offered by Dr. Magdalen Benish.
